about

The song developed really from the title, which I forgot had a double meaning and as you may have gathered, I enjoy word play and the depth and flexibility of the English language.

The first verse came easily but I struggled to move it along lyrically, that's when I invited Dan Whitehouse (reveal records) to collaborate with the lyrics and he took it to the next level!

I was playing it on guitar when playing it live but then when Michael stripped off down to just piano it really changed the mood and created the tension that I was looking for.

The added pulse of the synth in.the background just added another dimension to it.

I love the way it ends...

lyrics

Close Enough to Hurt

V1
I realise I am playing with fire but I need something to keep me warm.
I know you said you can't read my desire
Well here it is burning bright in your glow

Chorus
If I put you first
If I comfort you with words
If I hold you now
Will you always be, this close to me
Close enough to hurt

V2.
Can't see the horizon
For the burning sky and the smoke still rising
But I am steady your side
Follow your step in the dead of night

Chorus
